September is Library Card Sign-up Month!

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month – a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents that the most important school supply of all is found at your public library–it’s your library card! Since 1988, the month of September has marked a month of celebration and a continuation of a national campaign launched nationwide!

Not only does the library card allow you to borrow millions of dollars worth of materials, but it also often allows remote access to databases. If you or you child do not have a library card, get one today and be welcomed into a world of literary wonder!

Great tip! Right now libraries are extra busy in part because of the economy but a library card gives access to a real wealth of information and many resources. Parents, help your child learn to do research and not just relay on Wikipedia or Google searches. A librarian is the best search engine!

Thanks, Jeanette! Libraries and the librarians who run them are awesome!

As a former librarian, thanks for reminding us that it’s Library Card Sign-up time. I was at two public libraries this week and both were filled with very active, busy kids, reading and checking out books.
This is a great site, with lots of excellent ideas for teachers and librarians and young readers.
